The Greatest Little Gingerbread Competition: Jam Cabins seek advice from Master Baker

Sunday started out as a wonderful day! The sun was out and the snow was sparkling on the fields as the Jam Cabins prepared to create what would later be known as the obvious winner. The ingedients were carefully measured , the design drawings were before us and christmas carols played gloriously in the background. The hot pressed apple juice with cinamin(sp) sticks were sipped as we soothingly prepared our dough. "How come this dough so hard, I can hardly stir it". "It was your idea to use this recipe and were not starting over". " I knew we should of kept last years recipe because this one sucks"....." We're supposed to be enjoying this". How can we enjoy this when the &*%$#%& dough so hard, it crumbles when I roll it". " I've had it!!!! You've had it!!!!!" Well so have I". Hopefully, Jam Cabins get back on track because right now they are pretty much derailed and time is running out. Maybe they should call the Master Baker and ask for advice.
Dearest Jam Cabins: As author of New Yew Times Bestseller " Gingerbread And Its Effects On Relationships", and an all around great guy. I would like to give my deepest regards to the unfortunate circumstances that have happend this past weekend. Unfortunetly, I am not going to be able to save your marriage. But... I can surely help you with that gingerbread problem you've been having.
Solution 1: Having coffee the other day with Martha Stewart, I asked her about her amateur gingerbreads and she told me her solution was simple..... She goes to her local pastry chef and buys her gingerbread. Thats right Martha's a fake... Biatch
Solution 2: Leaving Martha's house early this morning after a night of MasterBaking I came up with another idea... It sounds like your dough is too dry and it lacks the moisture it needs to stop it from cracking. My suggestion would be to read my book " Zen And The Art Of The Gingerbread Master" Chapter 13 : So You Think You Can Roll: and also Chapter 19 : Is There Life After Gingerbread". I am sure this will help you in your journey of becoming a great Gingerbread Master like myself. Good Luck

BC Cancer Foundation

Team Bryanna (Bryce and Lanna) have decided to give money to the BC Cancer Foundation. We have participated in a local adventure race in Vancouver over the past two years, and one of the main volunteers, Jordy, has a mother who has been diagnosed with a Stage 3 ovarian tumor. He has been trying to raise money to help with all the costs of medicine and travel as she does not have comprehensive medical insurance. In November, Jordy did a fundraiser called "Grind cancer away on Grouse Mountain" to help raise money for his mother's treatment. Attention..... All You Gingerbread Masters.. I first want to say congratulaions to everyone who entered WOW... All of the entrys are amazing. I think they beat some of the gingerbread houses I have seen in Good Housekeeping. Not that I read that kind of stuff. Now I know I said the due date was on Dec 20, but a few people won't be able to get theres in on time and because it is the Christmas season. We are going to allow it. So the judging is going to go this way.... Everyone who has entered gets to vote.....BUT you can't vote for your own. Its only fair. Anyone else who is interested in voting can log on and vote as well. Now the final tally will be done on the 24th. That will give everyone enough time to finish up their stuff. Under every entry you will see a number beside " Posted by greatest little gingerbread comp". Click on the creation you like, right a comment and basically the person with the most votes wins the " 2006 Greatest Little Gingerbread Competition" For donations log on to Alberta Childrens Hospital and there will be a number you can call to donate. There is also Lanna and Bryce's friend cause. I am not going to be looking into everyone to see wether they do this. Please don't forget, it's for such a good cause. Merry Christmas Mike You have been invited to partake in the 3rd annual GLGC, which is a growing tradition. It started as a friendly family night of baking, and from there, a friendly feud. Now it has turned into an international competition, with competitors from Botswana, Iceland, Ukraine, and Qatar. Most competitors reside in Canada, infact everyone resides in Canada. We are sure it is going to be a worldwide tradition by next year. Please stay tuned for the official rules and regulations. One thing I can tell you is Dec 20 is the final day for entrys. Sorry Everyone it took so long for the rules to get posted. Now there are some people who are taking this alittle too serious.....wink wink I just want to remind everyone why we are having this competition, to raise money.... O.K. The rules

1) This isn't a rule, it is a suggestion..... I recommend everyone do this over a 2 day period, marriages have been ruined because of this. One day for the baking and the other day for the decorating.

2) Because there are families who could be doing this, store bought kits are allowed.

3) Has to be built on a 18" by 20" cookie sheet or piece of plywood.

4) Has to be done by Dec 20th, and judging will be done on the 23rd give or take a couple of days.

5) All decorations have to be edible, if anything looks suspect. You will be required to eat the object via satelite in front of everyone.

6) There will be a 20 dollar entry fee donated to a charity, posted in the other rightups or a charity of your choice. Take a look at Lanna and Bryce's, it a great cause. Lets see how much we can raise, our goal this year is 1 million dollars. I think we have a great chance.....of getting .001 % of that.

7) Besides my partner the pastry chef, There are no professionals allowed.

8) When you have finished your gingerbread, post your best picture you have a also a picture of the team so everyone can see who decorated what.

9) Last but not least, last year we had a cap on how much you can spend on decorations. There is going to be a 30 dollar cap and that is excluding the actual gingerbread. I know that sounds like alot of money but it adds up quick.

So, obviously the picture of last years winner (the dumptruck) has people worried about the high level of competition. Yes, i know that last years winner was a one of a kind masterpiece, however, fellow competitors, i'm sending out a warning that we (team bryanna) have stepped it up another notch this year. If you were impressed with the dumptruck, you'll be pleasantly surprised this year!!!! We have put blood, sweat and tears into this design, and have actually patent this design with the National Gingerbread House of America. We are quite proud of this achievement, as it's been a life goal of ours to be recognized at such a high level in the gingerbread world. Good luck!
